Compatibility
Which banks and formats work.
beatrax reads the statement formats European banks already export, so it isn't tied to any one institution and doesn't need your banking password.
Formats it reads
| Format | What it is | Typical source |
|---|---|---|
| CAMT.053 | The ISO 20022 XML bank statement. The richest option — most structured detail, most reliable counterparty data. | Most European banks, often labelled SEPA or ISO 20022 |
| MT940 | The older SWIFT statement format. Widely offered, slightly less structured than CAMT. | Most European banks |
| CSV | Per-bank comma-separated exports. beatrax detects the shape for the banks it knows. | Nearly every bank |
| ICS PDF | Monthly credit-card statements as PDF, parsed directly. | International Card Services |
| PayPal CSV | The per-transaction details export, not the balance report. | PayPal |
CAMT.053 is worth choosing where your bank offers it — the extra structure means better counterparty resolution and fewer rows landing in triage.
Verified
Shapes beatrax recognises explicitly, with an adapter or header profile and tests behind them. Detected automatically when you upload.
| Institution | Country | Formats |
|---|---|---|
| ASN Bank | NL | CAMT.053, MT940, CSV (own shape) |
| ING | NL | CSV (own shape), CAMT.053, MT940 |
| International Card Services (ICS) | NL | Monthly PDF statements |
| N26 | DE / EU | CSV (own shape) |
| Revolut | EU / UK | CSV (own shape) |
| PayPal | International | Transaction details CSV |
Expected to work
These institutions publish CAMT.053 or MT940 to account holders, which beatrax parses generically. They have not been individually tested — so if one of them fails on a conforming file, that is a bug worth reporting, not an unsupported bank.

Availability sometimes differs between personal and business products. Corrections from anyone who has actually tried it are welcome — that is the only way an entry moves from expected to verified. The full list lives in the specification →
What it doesn't do
- No screen-scraping — beatrax never asks for your online banking password and never logs in as you.
- No unsupported-bank guarantee — If your bank exports only a bespoke CSV nobody has mapped, you'll do some column-mapping yourself.
- Open banking is optional — There is a connector for automatic fetching, but it is off by default and needs your own aggregator API key. File import is the primary path, deliberately.
Coming from another app
If you already keep a budget elsewhere, beatrax can import it rather than making you start over. YNAB, nYNAB and Actual Budget exports bring across categories, budget history, transactions, splits and cleared status.
